Back to School Routines

Second week of school and looks like everyone is back to study mode. However, some are still enjoying the last bit of freedom before midterms, finals, and papers are handed out and processed. Others have hit the books and began to be deeply embedded into their ‘reading books’ getting them that A+ that they want to achieve. Although studying is key to achieving that A+ there are various ways to be able to study and enjoy life during the school year.

Exercise
Exercising is one activity that can be incorporated to your school routines. Sure there are days of being lazy and not wanting to do anything, however exercising helps create blood to flow throughout the body, waking up the brain cells that are probably bored out of their wits from reading “useless” information that’s not unrelated to your degree. So go walk around campus, or even stretch on the spot for blood circulation to wake up.

Food
Of course when it comes to studying constantly there can be a tendency to forget to eat three meals a day. Stop studying and go out and grab a bite to eat make sure to eat something whether it be a small snack or a huge meal from Degree (located in University of Manitoba, third floor of University centre). Eating will not only refresh your stomach but it’ll bring the nutrients from the food to the brain in some way or another.

Relaxing
Lastly is relax. Give yourself some time to relax retaining the information that was taken in from a lecture or intensely studying. Call up some friends, meet a friend on campus, or sleep to relax and give the mind to relax and fully gain and understand the information that was taken in.

When You Believe - Whitney Houston & Mariah Carey (COVER by Grace Lee)

Time...

Ever since I have finished my final exams (April 15th was my last day) I’ve had so much time on my hands that I don’t know what to do with the amount of time I have. The past couple of days I have been watching TV and catching up with episodes I had PVR’d (is that even a word, I don’t know). However, I will use my time wisely and not waste any of it at all.

Since I have been in school majority of the time, I haven’t been spending time with my family, friends, and especially to God’s word. Now that I have a lot of time on my hands I will be able to do that and possibly more. I have missed a lot of things that I wasn’t able to do when I was constantly studying and staying on campus late into the evening. I look forward to spending more time with friends, family and soaking myself into God’s word and being able to take God’s word and express it through my own life.

'Weather' it be for Fashion

With the weather in Winnipeg being consistently thirty below I thought it would be appropriate to blog about mens winter wear during the winter season and still be able to look stylish and stay warm.
Winnipeg weather is hard to predict. It can be cool one day then extremely frigid another day. For the past couple of weeks Winnipeg has had some intense weather where it has gone to minus twenty to minus thirty within a couple days; and that isn’t with a windchill of minus forty or minus fifty. With temperatures fluctuating all the time it is best to continually keep warm and wear the appropriate attire. Here are a few items that I’d consider using and wearing during these cold winter months. (Links are highlighted within the blog, which will direct you to the item or brand).

CASUAL WEAR
Casual wear would be clothes that everyone would regularly wear to accommodate their own type of style (shirt or sweater, jeans, and essential under garment that are necessary). A cable knit or turtle-neck sweater that is made out of wool, or part wool will increase your chance of actually keeping warm.
For those frigid days where temperatures go down to around -20 to -30, a nice down filled parka can keep you nice and toasty. Parkas come in a variety of sizes where they are able to hit just at the waist or lower than the waist. A good type of parka would be Northface or Canada Goose. If you’re worried about the price range there are other good winter jackets that you are able to buy. A fur trim anorak which I received for Christmas from The Gap has kept me warm during these past few weeks, and continues to keep me warm for the remaining months of winter (also thank you for for the jacket, you know who you are).
As for foot wear I recommend having boots that can be worn in -40 degree weather (plus windchill). Sorels are great boots to wear during this time of the year. Sorels are able to keep your feet warm. Depending on the style type they can accommodate temperatures of -40 all the way to -50. They are a little pricey, however it is an wise investment to have and provide style and warmth at the same time if you live in Winnipeg.

FORMAL WEAR
If you choose to go more formal or classier look during this season, I would recommend using a double-breasted peacoat. There are many stores that would be able to help you find a double-breast peacoat; one of those stores would be Le Chateau. The peacoat provides some warmth to a certain extent that would be able to keep you warm from the cold. Unfortunately with wearing a peacoat you will have to layer up in order to keep from freezing if you were to be outside for a certain amount of time (i.e. waiting for the bus). However, the peacoat does provide a sleek, formal, and professional look when going to those big office meetings or special occasions.
When it comes to foot wear you wouldn’t want to wear boots that aren’t pleasing to the eye. Wear a boot that provide a professional and clean look and that makes people know you are being serious, or just trying to impress someone. It is a bit challenging to decide as to what kind of boot to actually wear while being formal, however there are different kinds of boots where you are able to still look dapper. An example would be ALDO. ALDO carries the best formal boots that I can imagine at an affordable price. When you do choose a formal boot make sure that the bottom of the boot are textured which will prevent you from slipping.

ACCESSORIES
To complete your casual or formal look, wear a knit scarf and gloves which will keep your hands and face warm and lessen your chances of getting frost bitten. A cotton blended scarf will also do the job if you find that the knitted scarves to be irritable. You can also wear different types of gloves other than a knit ones as long as the gloves have a lining called Thinsulate, which would allow moisture to be released and retain heat within the gloves, touques or hats. And if you decide that you're not a touque or hat type of guy then get a pair of earmuffs which can cover and keep your ears warm.

Living in Winnipeg all of my life has continued me to try to stay warm by wearing what is essential to be safe during those frigid days. These few items will be able to keep you warm during the winter months especially living in Winnipeg or anything northern part of the world. If you have any questions or comment please feel free to let me know.

STAY SAFE AND KEEP WARM!!

Movie Review - Disney's Frozen

Frozen is packed with music, laughter, and of course snow. With being in Winnipeg, Manitoba we can relate to the people of Arendelle when they had their version of a snow blizzard.  I really enjoyed the movie a lot considering it was an animated film, it created a real exciting feel to the adventure that Anna and Elsa had throughout the movie. I don’t think there was a part of the movie where I was disinterested and hadn’t paid attention to. My eyes were glued to the screen the whole entire time the movie was playing.

Disney created a film that has to be one of their best films they have created in a while. Mind you Disney has created exceptional movies in the past, however lacked a certain something. To an extent Disney has made movies more with actual actors and actresses such as The Pirates of the Caribbean, Oz, and The Lone Ranger. There are the animated films that Disney had created but lacked the Disney “magic”. I have to say that the movie did provide a lot of family influence and love throughout the movie as well as whatever the situation may be to never give up.

Frozen is an awesome film and I highly recommend it to for all ages. It truly brings out the child in you to life regardless of your age. Disney’s Frozen has brought the “magic” back to life “for the first time in forever”.

The Switch to be Happy

I’ve come to a realization that not everyone finds their calling in life right away. There are individuals that do but end up feeling they need a change in life. I personally have switched jobs, courses, and professions multiple times in the past 10 years. I’ve gone from being a cook in McDonald’s to becoming a sales associate, to a assistant manager to even custodian. In this blog I will be taking  different views on why the switch of profession in finding a happier living.

From full-time to part-time, seasonal and temporary, are what we hear when we all get hired for a position at a workplace that we would enjoy and stay with. As years role we grow weary and bored of the repetitiveness that happens from monday to friday for 8 hours of our day. If not then it has to do with a certain employee that’s bothersome or management not being able to do their job accordingly. These are just few of the reasons as to why people would find a better job or switch professions. However, not all individuals have a reason to switch because of minor reasoning. They may switch professions to intrigue ones intellectual ability or they just want to switch and go on a different path. Either way a switch in jobs can lead that person to a better life or even more hope for their own future where they would be able to experience happiness in what they’re doing. Personally I have made these choices in my life and I have to say that if I haven’t done those switches I wouldn’t be where I am today.

During my years going from part-time to full-time jobs, going in and out of school for majority of my life has put me in a path where I am able to fully comprehend where I may be headed. As a student finishing my BA in english has made me realize that there are many different professions to what I can be when I finish. The choices are unlimited and are accessible depending on how hard I work for the profession. Initially I wanted to become an english high school teacher teaching teens the proper use of the english language and how to decipher what a novel or text is actually representing or trying to represent. However, to be able to teach young individuals can be a challenge, but provides a sense of fulfillment to see each young individual express their own ideas. Teaching creates a stable lifestyle of working Monday to Friday 8 hour shifts which can become very repetitive and can or will become plain or even boring.

As a student, I would like to avoid, or try to avoid the notion of changing careers, knowing that my career isn’t satisfying my needs. I think that people switch career for more than just for better environment or just to switch. I think that when people make a career switch it becomes more personal and more logical to what the person thinks or feels to which is more suited to their needs. It can also be that switching will allow them to follow their dreams wanting what they had envisioned themselves to do in the first place, however wasn’t able to follow through. A better pay is always great and is always a factor in switching careers, but knowing that the switch of careers can actually create a better living and make you feel happy at what you’re doing, will be the best decision you can ever make in your life.
